At Parkgate Paws, we know that life doesn't always go to plan — and an unexpected hospital stay shouldn't mean worrying about who's looking after your pets. We offer same-day emergency support across Wirral and Chester, including home check-in visits, emergency dog walks, full-day cover, and hospital key collection. Fully insured, DBS checked, and pet first aid trained, we treat your home and your animals with the same care we'd want for our own.

This FAQ covers the key details of our emergency pet‑care service — including access, updates, payment, and essential information we need to keep your pet safe while you’re in hospital.
What information do you need from me?
To begin emergency care, I only need the essentials — and everything can be provided quickly by you, a family member, or your nominated contact:

For legal and safety reasons, I also need a signed copy of the Parkgate Paws Terms & Conditions. If you’re already in hospital and unable to sign immediately, your nominated contact can sign on your behalf so care can begin without delay. This protects your pet, your home, and ensures everything is compliant
What updates will I receive?
You’ll receive daily updates, including photos, feeding confirmation, toilet breaks, walk notes, and anything important I’ve noticed. If you’re unable to use your phone, We can update a family member instead.
What if I don’t have anyone who can give you a key?
We can collect keys directly from the hospital, work with ward staff, or access a key safe if you have one. If needed, We can contact a neighbour on your behalf to arrange safe entry.
What areas do you cover?
Parkgate Paws provides emergency pet‑care across Parkgate, Neston, Little Neston, Heswall and the wider Wirral area. I also support clients admitted to Arrowe Park Hospital, Countess of Chester Hospital, and Spire Murrayfield, ensuring your pet is cared for no matter which local hospital you’re taken to.
How quickly can you start?
Emergency care can begin immediately. If you’re admitted to hospital unexpectedly, We prioritise your pet straight away — often within a few hours. We will collect keys however is easiest and start visits as soon as access is arranged.
Do you tidy up or handle basic home care?
Yes — We keep your home feeling lived‑in and comfortable. This includes bins, blinds, lights, post, litter trays, small accident clean‑ups, and keeping everything secure.
What happens if my hospital stay is longer than expected?
Your pet’s care simply continues. We can add extra visits, adjust routines, or coordinate with family members. If your stay becomes long‑term, we can help arrange boarding or alternative care.
Are you insured, DBS‑checked, and pet‑first‑aid trained?
Yes — Parkgate Paws is fully insured, DBS‑checked, and pet‑first‑aid trained, giving you complete peace of mind during an emergency.
How do you get access to my home?
We can collect keys from a neighbour, key safe, family member, or the hospital if permitted. If none of these are possible, We will work with ward staff or your emergency contact to arrange safe access.
How do I pay if I’m in hospital?
Payment is simple and secure. I send an invoice by email or text, and payment is due within 48 hours of issue, even if you’re still in hospital. If you’re unable to manage this yourself, your nominated emergency contact can handle payment on your behalf.
For longer hospital stays, invoices are issued weekly so your account stays up to date. This ensures your pet’s care can continue without interruption and protects the service from unpaid balances.
